Crewe Road Nursery aims to provide a welcoming and caring atmosphere to give children the best start in life.

• We are an independent nursery registered with the Care Inspectorate.
• Located in the North of Edinburgh, just off Crewe Road South and relocated to a purpose-built property in 2013.
• We have places for 55 children and can take children from birth up until they are ready for school.
• We are in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council to help deliver pre-school funded hours.

We believe the best way for children to thrive and learn is through meaningful interactions with the staff team and peers, responsive and nurturing routines and by ensuring the staff team know children and families to ensure we can meet everyone’s needs fully.

Following a child-centred approach allows for meaningful and purposeful learning experiences. Children are supported to select their own learning experiences, giving them the opportunity to explore and investigate as well as make sense of the world around them. We believe that learning occurs best through play and where children experience their world first-hand. Children are supported in making autonomous choices, they are encouraged to take the lead in their own learning journey and are challenged and supported in all aspects of their development.

The nursery offers:

Two large, bright playrooms that cater to children’s differing ages.
• A bright cloakroom area.
• A buggy parking zone.
• A staff/family room.   
• Professional and welcoming staff who demonstrate an obvious passion for their roles.
• A ratio of 1 adult to 3 children aged 0-2, 1 adult to 5 children aged 2-3 and 1 adult to 8 children aged 3-5.
• Use of the secure online platform Learning Journals to document and track children’s learning journey, track and monitor progress over time, use a direct line of communication between families, send nursery newsletters and send finances related information.
• Access to spacious rooms such as a dance hall and large gym hall in the youth centre which is adjacent to the nursery.
• Forest Kindergarten experiences in surrounding garden areas and the local woodland area.
• Opportunities to be involved in an Eco-school committee to help maintain a sustainable ethos in our community and daily lives.
