Baby and Toddler Room

The baby and toddler room comprises of a bright and nurturing open plan room with a variety of fundamental spaces to explore. The inviting areas include a large, cosy den for children to develop their playful, schematic investigations, a house corner to enhance role-play, a construction area where early numeracy is evident, a large loose parts and heuristic area to encourage curiosity and a sand and water tray. As well as sand and water, there are several malleable materials explored daily to enhance scientific investigation.

The room has a soft, comfortable story corner amongst the den where stories, singing and musical instruments are enjoyed. There is also a climbing frame to practice gross motor skills and a fun tunnel where children can hide, crawl and explore. We have a separate, cosy sleep room, where children are supported by the staff team to sleep in pods or on mats, the nursery provide children’s individual bedding and a separate bathroom and hygienic nappy changing area. The room also has wide fire exit doors which, once opened, leads onto a beautiful side garden space for babies and young children to explore sand, mud kitchen and a climbing frame and slide.

The Baby and Toddler Room provides:

• A warm, nurturing and loving environment for all babies and young children to feel safe, secure and happy during their time at nursery.
• Meaningful interactions and trusting relationships between the staff team and families in order to meet everyone’s needs.
• A variety of daily sensory play experiences
• The freedom and confidence for children to make their own choices, surrounded by the staff team who understand the importance of respecting children’s rights.
• Daily feedback from the staff team on how your child’s day has been, what they have explored and any further information.
• A private account to our online learning platform to look at your own child’s observations, learning journey, direct message the staff team and have an active role in your child’s time with us.
• Opportunities for safe and fun learning experiences in our outdoor areas as well as outings in and around the community and further afield, permission obtained prior.
• Encouragement in healthy eating habits as a social experience, with mealtimes viewed as a special interaction that staff and children take their time to enjoy.
• A happy and energetic atmosphere which helps children feel stimulated.
• A key person for each child who monitors development and establishes positive relationships with parents/carers to ensure we work in partnership together, meeting every 6 months at parents evening to catch up.
• Qualified staff members dedicated to their continuous learning journey to constantly improve practice and develop their knowledge and skills, in line with current guidance, legislation and interests.

Pre-School Room

The pre-school room offers a large and welcoming playroom. Children can engage in play-based experiences where they can lead their own learning. Children can choose and access resources independently using visuals. Literacy, numeracy and health and well-being are focus areas on the room; however, all areas of the Curriculum for Excellence are embedded throughout the nursery. Child sized toilets and sinks are accessed via the playroom. The door to access the side garden is always open to allow children to choose indoor or outdoor free flow play. We have a separate room where children can engage in more focused learning experiences and enjoy quiet time.

The Pre-School Room provides:‍

• Child initiated learning opportunities indoors and outdoors.
• Encouragement for children to make their own choices and access their own resources.
• Opportunities for children to develop their independence – for example pouring their own drinks, preparing and serving their own food, rolling snack time as to not interrupt play etc..
• Exposure to the written word, letters and phrases in all languages to incorporate a sense of pride, belonging and early literacy experiences.
• A variety of mark making opportunities, setting the foundations for writing.
• Ongoing engagement through interesting topics based on children’s interests, seasons, long term plan, family celebrations etc which helps implement the early level outcomes of the Curriculum for Excellence..
• Daily implementation of the early level outcomes of the Curriculum for Excellence.
